If people are furnished with a poor level of service through their appointed solicitor, they may often feel as though there is very little they can do to address this problem. In fact, often they may even feel very intimated over the prospect of making a formal complaint about the firm of solicitors. They will appreciate the fact that solicitors are legal experts and may be anxious that their complaint could backfire on them, in some way.

The first piece of advice would be that you should try not to feel this way. When all is said and done, firms of solicitors are businesses, just like any other type of service provider. Moreover, they are bound by professional working practices and standards which are enforced through the Law Society. Where a solicitor breaches these regulations, you have every right to pursue an official complaint.

Complaints about solicitors may arise for a number of reasons. A lot of the time these will relate to poor levels of service having been received. This would include circumstances such as when a solicitor has failed to communicate with you adequately over your case, for example. It would also extend to a solicitor failing to carry out essential work that was required to progress your case, or even when you believe you have been grossly overcharged through the firm.

If you feel compelled to complain about the solicitors service, you should first raise it within the practice itself. Therefore, it is a good idea to set your complaint out in writing to one of the senior partners. They will be obliged to do what they can to resolve your complaint in-house. Once you have exhausted this process, if you remain unhappy with the response, you are entitled to approach the Legal Complaints Service. This is a body that comes under the jurisdiction of the Law Society. In many ways, the Legal Complaints Service will act as an arbitrator between yourself and the firm. However, they do have the authority to become more actively involved and they can insist that a certain action is carried out by the offending firm of solicitors.

Please do try to remember that this is the 21st century. Firms of solicitors are obliged to ensure that they are providing their clients with the best level of customer service at all times. As with any other professional service provider, when they fail to do this, they must be held accountable.

If you have had some bad experiences with solicitors in the past and are concerned that most firms are much the same, you should definitely use a solicitors directory which includes up-to-date reviews. At Rate a Solicitor type sites you will be able to decipher between the good and bad solicitors and make an informed decision as to whom you choose to instruct.
