Causes of Insomnia

Sleeping pills tend to have many side-effects like dry mouth, drowsiness the next day, forgetfulness, nausea, sweating, drug dependence, masking of underlying mental disorders and so on. Sleep supplements on the other hand are safer and have minimal or no side-effects when compared to the pills.
Sleep supplements provide all those vital components to your body which help overcome insomnia. However, it is always recommended that you seek your doctor's opinion before starting on any of these regimens.

Types of Sleep Supplements

There are broadly two types. The first type helps in addressing the biochemical problem. In other words, it boosts the levels of melatonin and serotonin which in turn promotes sleep. The second category is those which help in bringing down your stress levels. When the stress levels are reduced, you automatically tend to get a sound sleep.

However, please note that these are not substitutes for your diet but just a way to boost the essential factors which promote sleep. Also please remember that every individual is different from the other and the body reactions to supplements differ. It is not necessary that if one person's body reacts well, your body will also react in the same way.

When to Avoid Taking These Supplements

There are some exceptions when you must avoid taking them. Here are the cases:

* Avoid them in case you are pregnant
* If you are breast feeding your baby
* If you are under the age of 35
* If you are suffering from any kind of kidney problem
* If you are suffering from blood cancer, diabetes, heart problem or sleep apnea
* If you are having any immune system related problems
