Nowadays, homeowners are working on lowering their budgets. This includes lowering energy expenses, clothing allowances, food budgets and other necessary personal expenses. Money spent is highly monitored, especially in times of need. On the other hand, maintenance of the appearance as well as the wellness of homes is usually taken for granted.

It is considered too costly by some. One thing that most people forget to consider is that well-maintained houses actually increase savings when it comes to energy consumption, that is from good maintenance of windows, doors, electrical wiring, water systems and a whole lot more things that are mostly overlooked. Here we will look at the maintenance of windows, specifically reducing drafts, and how it affects the household budget.

Windows, like doors, are the most exposed parts of the house that need proper and regular maintenance. They are always exposed to temperature changes due to natural phenomena. Also, they are prone to chemical reactions between the materials they are made of and moisture, heat and other elements that can come from different climatic conditions. One of the most advised ways of taking care of windows is to swap old ones to new fitted ones. This reduces drafts.

Here are some reasons why you need to reduce drafts by changing to more fitted windows:

Increase energy efficiency by regulating the temperature inside your homes. If there are fewer drafts from your windows, the air from the outside will not be able to easily affect the temperature inside by avoiding air leaks through the tightly fitted windows. Drafts and condensation are caused by stress cracks and seam failure. Tightly fitted windows, which are sealed reliably by newer sealants, can prevent such problems. Once the temperature is regulated inside the room or house, energy consumption is regulated better, thus homeowners are able to save money on their energy bills.

Fitted windows reduce drafts, thus they are easier to clean. Condensation can be reduced - if not fully avoided. Thus, stains caused by the reaction of moisture and paint need not be a problem for you. This also avoids highly unwanted rust and corrosion making the windows perform well and remain good looking. Fitted windows also avoid the need for periodic and frequent maintenance. They will require minimal effort to clean.

Use of new fitted windows prevents your house from appearing too shabby. Noticeably peeling pain and chipping from the frames can make your house look old and un-maintained. This also increases the value of your home, in case you decide to sell it in the future.
Tight-fitting storm windows can reduce drafts, thereby improving comfort for the homeowners. By creating an airspace between the exterior and interior windows, the insulation of the window becomes better - thus it raises the interior window temperature and hence reduce energy bills.

Studies in different areas show that there is roughly 25-30% savings in the heating and cooling energy because of tightly fitted windows.

Now that the advantages had been laid out for you, start thinking about replacing your old windows with new fitted windows - and start saving money.
