The clarity and quality of the radio greatly depends on the transmission and the distance from its transmitters. There could be poor reception of the signals in the country side or the rural side. The FM radio generally receives the signals from the stations of the various radio channels from its antennas nearby. This is the reason for distorted audio when we travel far away from it. There are few techniques that can be followed to boost the reception of the FM radio. This is inexpensive also. After the tweaking of the radio, the antenna reception is enhanced and various stations can be heard with better quality. Hence these tips on how to boost FM radio reception would be very useful during long drives away from the city.

For doing this, some basic things that are required would be the dipole antenna and the radio antenna that can be used in outdoors. Apart from these other tools might also be needed.

The power cord of the radio is outstretched. It is made straight as much as possible to make sure to receive better signals. Sometimes the signals would still be weak after doing this. Then, sound of the stereo is switched to ‘mono’ type.

The other preliminary step that can be done to improve the signal reception is to move the antenna in various directions. The antenna of the radio can be extended slowly in all directions. This would generally show a variation in the reception of the signal from the station. After doing this, if there is no change in the signal, the radio can be moved near the window. This will minimize the obstacles between the radio and the signals that are outdoors.

If any of the above did not show any improvements in the signal, some additional connections can be made to improve the reception. This can be done by the dipole antenna. This is available in any electronic or automobile hardware stores. It is small and in the shape of letter ‘T’. This antenna helps in boosting the signal.

This dipole antenna is attached to the input of the FM radio. The wire is then slowly moved around. Simultaneously, the stations are tuned and flipped and is checked for better signal.

Then, the outdoor antenna is installed. This is installed outside the house that is used in the rural area which is far away from the radio stations. The wire is then plugged from the antenna to the input jacks of the radio. The antenna is then mounted on the roof of the house by screwing the screws back to position. The position of the antenna must be made sure to be parallel with the ground’s direction and particularly not inclined. This is necessary for having good results and clear reception.

This can be used in houses that are away in the woods or rural places. If there is accessibility to the internet, radio can be listened through internet. This article therefore explains how to boost FM radio reception.
